Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team returns to action Thursday night as it opens Window 2 of the FIBA Men’s World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
Canada (2-0) will face Puerto Rico (0-2) on Feb. 26 at 7:10 p.m. ET / 4:10 p.m. PT in San Juan before travelling to Kingston to meet Jamaica (2-0) on Sunday, March 1 at 6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT. Both games will stream live in Canada on TSN+.
Canada enters the second window atop Group B after sweeping the Bahamas in November, earning a 111-75 victory on the road and a 94-88 win at home in Toronto. Jamaica also sits at 2-0 after sweeping Puerto Rico, while Puerto Rico and the Bahamas are 0-2.
Following Window 2 and this summer’s Window 3, the top three teams in Group B will advance to the second round. After three windows in the first round, those teams will carry their results forward and face the top three teams from Group D in the final three windows of qualification.
Puerto Rico leads the all-time FIBA series 17-8, though Canada has won the last two meetings between the sides, most recently at the FIBA Men’s AmeriCup 2025.
Thursday’s matchup carries significance in the group standings. Canada can secure advancement to the second round with a win over Puerto Rico. A split record in Window 2 combined with a Jamaica victory over the Bahamas would also see Canada advance.
Marcus Carr will be a player to watch in the backcourt. The 6-foot-1 point guard is averaging six assists per game through the first two qualifiers and has provided steady playmaking for Canada. Carr is enjoying a strong season with Würzburg in Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga, where he is averaging 16.7 points and 5.2 assists. He contributed eight points and six assists per game during Window 1 and brings additional international experience from the 2025 AmeriCup.
Kyle Wiltjer also returns after leading Canada in scoring during the opening window. Wiltjer averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game against the Bahamas and provides veteran scoring, and elite three-point shooting presence in the frontcourt.
Canada and Jamaica have limited history in FIBA-sanctioned competition, having met once previously at the 2013 FIBA Men’s AmeriCup, a game Canada won.
Jamaica enters Window 2 with momentum after sweeping Puerto Rico and is competing in the World Cup Qualifiers for the first time under FIBA’s current six-window format. Sunday’s contest in Kingston could determine positioning at the top of Group B heading into the final window of the first round.
Canada will look to build on its 2-0 start and remain undefeated as it continues its qualification campaign toward the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2027 in Qatar.
