Quebec, Ontario set the stage for Championship Showdowns on Semifinal Friday
THE RUNDOWN
Quebec and Ontario will meet for both the U15 and U17 men’s national championship games on Saturday after each province swept through semifinal action on Day 5, setting the stage for a championship doubleheader.
NOTEWORTHY
- Ontario’s Kenyon St. Louis flirted with a triple-double in the U17 semifinal, recording 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists on 10-of-14 shooting in a 110–54 win over Alberta.
- Quebec was convincing in booking its two championship berths. Its U15 team nearly doubled Nova Scotia in a 96–50 victory, while the U17 squad pulled away from British Columbia for an 87–71 win.
- A balance attack powered Ontario’s U15 offence, as six players reached double figures in their win over Manitoba. Quebec followed a similar formula against Nova Scotia, with five U15 players scoring at least 10 points each.
- Saskatchewan’s U15 team turned defence into offence against British Columbia, forcing 25 turnovers and recording 18 steals in a 79–68 victory. Syn Tyson produced one of the day’s most complete performances, finishing with 26 points, 10 steals, eight assists and two blocks.
- Alberta’s U15 men overcame a 52–45 rebounding disadvantage against New Brunswick by forcing 29 turnovers to go with 15 steals, using that extra possession battle to earn the win. Chase Sherley recorded a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double on 8-of-15 shooting, in the win.
- Nova Scotia controlled the glass in its U17 victory over Saskatchewan, winning the rebounding battle 61–46 and grabbing 21 offensive boards in an 89–62 result, powered by James Mackay and Daylen Hutchinson’s 19 points apiece.
- Manitoba U17 men connected on 12 three-pointers in its 92–80 victory over New Brunswick, led by Veer Brar’s five triples and 22 points. Alexandre Jean added 13 points, six assists and three steals.
