For the fifth time in the last two months, Canada will take on China as the familiar opponents tip-off action in Women's Basketball Group B at the 2016 Rio Summer Games.

Winners of all four previous meetings, Canada will look to continue its run of success against China in a crucial game that could go a long way to determining the standings. The top four of the six teams in Group B will advance to the quarter-final round at the conclusion of the round-robin group stage.

Canada's women's basketball team is making its second consecutive appearance at the Olympic Games and sixth all-time.  This will be the fourth straight Summer Games and eighth all-time the Chineese women's basketball team.

Team Canada qualified for the Olympics last summer when it won gold at the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship, and has gone 8-3 in exhibition play this season, including a three-game sweep of China at the Edmonton Grads International Classic last month. China waited until June's last-chance Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where it was one of five teams to secure a spot in Rio.

Facts and figures:

  • This is the 200th career international game for Canadian captain Kim Gaucher, who first played for her country in 2001 and was Canada's leading scorer (13.8 ppg) at the 2012 Olympics.
