SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Dec. 14, 2024) – Canada’s 3x3 Men’s and Women’s National Teams are set to cap off the year in thrilling fashion as they hit the court at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2024 in San Juan,Puerto Rico, from Dec. 12-15.
A podium finish is the prize, and Canada’s women are no strangers to the spotlight. Boasting three Olympians – Paige Crozon (FIBA rank No.2), Katherine Plouffe (FIBA rank No. 3), and Kacie Bosch (FIBA rank No. 30) – alongside returning 3x3 AmeriCup bronze medalist Saicha Grant-Allen.
The team is locked in for Pool B matchups against Jamaica (5:10 p.m. EST / 6:10 p.m. local) and Mexico (6:35p.m. EST / 7:35 p.m. local) on Friday.
The women aim to add to their impressive record, having medaled in every AmeriCup since its inception in 2021, including a gold medal in 2022.
“It's going to be a fun time to go to Puerto Rico,” said Plouffe. “Getting back on the court and figuring out new strategies, and just having fun with the game.”
On the men’s side, a hungry mix of experience and fresh talent is ready for the challenge.
Veteran sharpshooter Steve Sir (FIBA rank No. 61) leads a squad featuring Jérôme Desrosiers (FIBA rank No. 80), Grant Audu, and Marek Klassen.
Canada will square off in Pool C against Argentina (4:45 p.m. EST / 5:45 p.m. local) and Jamaica (8:15 p.m. EST / 9:15 p.m. local), beginning their campaign on Friday.
The men’s team is eyeing their first-ever podium finish, with Desrosiers eager to test their mettle: “It's always fun to bring in other countries, especially because I know some guys on the American team are going to be there, so I think it's going to be fun to play against them…but I see it as steps to get to the Olympics.”
The top two teams from each pool will advance to Sunday’s quarterfinals, with the medal rounds set to crown champions by day’s end. Fans can watch the action live on the FIBA 3x3 YouTube channel.
