TORONTO (January 24, 2025) – Considered by many to be the front-runner for the 2024-25 NBA MVP, Senior Men’s National Team guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named a NBA All-Star for the third-time in his career.

The Hamilton, Ont. product was voted a Western Conference starter for the second-straight year, becoming the first Canadian to ever be named an All-Star in back-to-back seasons.

The nod comes fresh off a career-high 54 points for Gilgeous-Alexander in the Thunder’s win over the Jazz on Wednesday, after making 17 of his 35 field goals and 17 of his 18 free throws.

The mark also surpassed Senior Men’s National Team teammate Jamal Murray for the most points by a Canadian in a NBA single-game, surpassing Murray’s 50-point performance on Feb. 19, 2021.

Gilgeous-Alexander has taken his game to new heights this season, leading the Association with 32 points per game, while averaging 6.1 assists and 5.4 rebounds, helping him earn the seventh most fan votes.

Shai became one of four Canadian to be named NBA All-Stars when he earned his first selection in 2023, joining the likes of Steve Nash, Jamaal Magloire and Andrew Wiggins.

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is set for Feb. 16 in San Francisco at the Golden State Warriors' Chase Center. This year’s edition features a new format, as four teams — three made up of voted NBA All-Stars, and the winner of the annual Rising Stars showcase — taking part in the contest.

For each matchup of the three-game tournament, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points.
