TORONTO (March 28, 2025) - Four Canadians players and two Canadian coaches will represent the country at the 2025 Nike Hoop Summit.
Agot Makeer, Jaion Pitt, Deniya Prawl and Nyadieng Yiech will all suit up for the Select World squads and will be joined by coaches Carly Clarke and Shae Dheensaw at the upcoming 2025 Nike Hoop Summit, which is set for Apr. 12 in Portland, Oregon.
The quartet of athletes all represented Canada this past summer, with all four reaching podiums on the world stage. Makeer and Prawl were a part of a historic Canadian team that won silver at the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2024, while Pitt and Yiech were on their respective U18 National Teams this summer, helping Canada coming home with silver medals at both the FIBA U18 Men’s and Women’s AmeriCups.
Makeer and Prawl, who committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks and Tennnesse Volunteers, respectively, were both named McDonald’s All-Americans in their senior seasons. Joining them is Dieng, a Calgary, Alta. product, who is set to join the Florida Gators this fall.
Pitt averaged nearly a double-double this summer for Canada at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024, after also suiting up for his country the summer prior at the FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023.
“For the players, the exposure to the different styles of play and strengths from around the world are a great chance to learn and grow, and bring things back to our Team Canada environment to build towards earning more podium appearances,” said Clarke.
Set to lead the likes of Makeer, Prawl and Yiech is Clarke, who will make her third-straight appearance at the event, having served as the Women’s World Select team head coach in both 2023 and 2024, with Dheensaw also serving as an assistant in 2024.
Clarke has an extensive resume with Canada Basketball coaching with the Senior Women’s National Team, U23 Women’s National Team and U19 Women’s National Team. The Halifax, N.S. product and head coach of the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold women’s basketball team will be reuniting with Dheensaw, who was previously the lead assistant coach with the Bold before being hired as the Brock Badgers head coach this past June.
“Any opportunity I get to represent Canada on the world stage is always a huge honour. To do it at the Hoop Summit is a special experience, the uniqueness of bringing together players from around the world to build a team is unlike any other,” said Clarke.
“Having Canadians alongside, both on the bench and on the floor for the experience makes it extra special.”
Canadians to suit up in previous renditions of the Nike Hoop Summit include the likes of Jamal Murray, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Syla Swords, Andrew Wiggins, Delaney Gibb, RJ Barrett, Toby Fournier, Nickel Alexander-Walker, Avery Howell, Luguentz Dort and Jasmine Bascoe.
