TORONTO (July 21, 2025) – Syla Swords and Avery Howell have been named to the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup 2025 All-Star Five and All-Second Team.
Swords is no stranger to excelling on the international stage. The Sudbury, Ont. native led Canada in points and rebounds, averaging 15.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. In a major 115-52 win over China, Swords delivered her best performance of the tournament with 20 points and 9 rebounds
Howell finished the tournament as the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 14.1 points per game, highlighted by a standout 26 points against China in the Group Stage. Throughout the tournament, Howell shot an impressive 48.6% from the field, with 18 made three-pointers.
Despite falling to Spain in the bronze medal game, one thing is clear: the future of Canadian basketball is bright.
