The 2014 U15 and U17 National Championships will now be an official NCAA-sanctioned tournament. This is a major development for the growth of the tournament as it now meets the prerequisite criteria to become a recruiting opportunity for CCAA, CIS and NCAA scouts and coaches.
The tournament will allow top U15 and U17 athletes to display their talents in front of top-tier recruiters at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, AB from July 25th – 30th.
Executive Director of Canada Basketball, Michele O’Keefe, sees the National Championships as an important event for player development and exposure: “This year's National Championships will serve as an excellent way to see our country's top athletes all competing together in Edmonton at one venue. Many times the Nationals are an important first step in an athlete’s progression towards post-secondary basketball opportunities, whether that be in the CCAA, CIS or the NCAA.”
In addition to being sanctioned the tournament will also see both U15 and U17 male and female provincial teams compete at the same venue, bringing together all four events for the first time in National Championship history.
