TORONTO (June 13, 2026) — Canada Basketball has announced the U17 Men’s National Team training camp roster as the team begins final preparations for the upcoming FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup 2026.
Following April’s Selection Camp Fuelled by Gatorade, which brought together 44 of the country’s top athletes, the program now shifts its focus toward final roster selection ahead of this summer’s competition.
“Expectations are high for this talented group,” said Michael Meeks, Assistant General Manager of Men’s Basketball Operations at Canada Basketball. “Our focus will be on continuing to install our systems, refining our style of play, and building the cohesion needed to prepare for international competition.”.
The team will train at Humber College in Toronto from June 14-19 before traveling to Istanbul, Turkiye where the tournament will take place from June 27 to July 5.
Chris Cheng has been named head coach, returning to lead the program after guiding Canada to silver medals at the FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup in both 2023 and 2025. Cheng has been involved with Canada Basketball since 2013, holding multiple roles within the men’s high-performance pathway. This will mark his second time leading Canada at the FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup, following his appearance in 2024.
Joining Cheng on the bench are assistant coaches Dan Vanhooren and Brad Campbell, both of whom return from last summer’s staff.
“This coaching staff brings both international experience and a strong understanding of the athletes, having worked with many of them during last summer’s FIBA U16 AmeriCup Championship”, Meeks continued. “That familiarity will be an important asset as the team prepares for the world stage."
The final 12-athlete roster for the FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup 2026 will be announced prior to the start of competition in Istanbul.
