Canada Basketball is proud to support the Canadian head coach and the multiple Canadian players who have been selected to compete in the prestigious 16th annual NIKE Hoop Summit game. The international event is set to take place April 20 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.

Top-ranked senior forward Andrew Wiggins, and junior forward Trey Lyles have been chosen to represent Canada on the World Select Team, though Lyles has since withdrawn due to injury. Canadian Roy Rana was selected as head coach of the World Select Team, his third consecutive election to the prestigious position.

Canada Basketball Assistant General Manager and Executive Vice President of the Senior Men’s Program, Rowan Barrett, says, “It’s good to see the tradition that Canada has of producing multiple players that are selected to this game. I think it speaks to the amount of talent that we do have in the country and the direction that our game is going. At the same time I think there were other worthy potential selections, but we congratulate Andrew and Trey for the hard work that they’ve put in for these accolades. It’s a great opportunity for our young players to measure themselves and their skills against the other top players in the world.”

North America’s Nike Basketball Field Representative, Mark Bayne says, “Nike is extremely happy to have Andrew Wiggins return for his second appearance at the Nike Hoop Summit. After last year's MVP performance, we will once again be looking for his scoring ability on the court and his leadership abilities throughout the week."

This will be the second appearance for Wiggins at the NIKE Hoop Summit after leading the international squad to an 84-75 victory over the USA Junior National Select Team last year with a team-high 20 points and seven rebounds.

Wiggins’ selection to the game is another distinction in what has been a stellar season for the Naismith Boys High School Player of the Year award winner– further cementing his status as the highest-ranked player in the class of 2013.

An integral part of the Canada’s National Team program, the 6-8, 215-pound senior from Concord, Ontario, has represented Canada at the FIBA Under-17 World Championships and the Under-18 FIBA Americas, and will compete this July with his Canadian teammates at the FIBA U19 World Championships in Prague.

Lyles, ranked among the top-five prospects in the class of 2014, is a 6-9 forward who led his Arsenal Technical high school team in points, rebounds, and assists this season. The JMNT member injured his left knee in one of the last games of the season.

The head coaching position for the team comprised with elite talent from across the globe will be held by Roy Rana once again. Rana’s extensive coaching record includes three years as the head coach of the World Select Team at the NIKE Hoop Summit and multiple years coaching Canada at the NIKE Global Challenge including a Silver Medal finish in 2012. The veteran coach currently leads the Junior Men’s National Team and is active throughout Canada Basketball’s National Team Programs.

"Making his third Nike Hoop Summit appearance, Coach Rana brings a wealth of international experience and will be counted on to help prepare the team against a very strong US squad,” said Bayne.

Most recently on the international level, Rana led the Canadian JMNT to a third place finish at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships in June 2012, securing a berth in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship to be played this July in Prague.
