15U Girls National Championship - Day 2                            

Quebec 74 - British Columbia 27

Day 2 started with a matchup between Quebec and British Columbia.  Continuing their lopsided victory from Day 1, Quebec was in full control early, jumping out to a 13-8 lead by the end of the 1st quarter.  Quebec's tenacious defence forced B.C. to turn the ball over 18 times in the first half alone.  A 9-0 run at the end of the 2nd quarter had Quebec in control and leading 31-15 heading into halftime.  Quebec continued to pour on their attack in the second half starting with a 12-0 run to run away with the game.  Led by Sarah Bailly (21 points, 6 steals), Quebec dominated B.C. inside the paint and eventually went on to claim a 74-27 victory.  

Ontario 100 - Manitoba 28

The second game of the day saw Ontario take on Manitoba.  The much bigger and more physical Ontario team made their presence felt early, taking it strong to the basket, and capitalizing on second chance points off offensive rebounds.  Led by game high scorer Merissah Russell who only needed the first half to score her 22 points, Ontario out-muscled their way to a commanding 66-18 lead at halftime.  The story did not change in the second half as Ontario was simply too much for Manitoba to handle and went on to win the game by a final score of 100-28.  

Newfoundland 59 - New Brunswick 56

Newfoundland came out of the gate with a 9-0 run to start the game.  Game high scorer Alyssa Jenkins (22 points) scored seven points in the 1st quarter to give Newfoundland a 12-8 lead.  In a low scoring first half affair, both teams shot poorly as they matched up in defensive intensity.  The two teams continued to trade baskets in the second half with New Brunswick's Kylee Speedy (16 points) knocking down key 3-pointers to bring the game to within reach.  However, the run felt short as Alyssa Jenkins closed out the game scoring Newfoundland's final eight points in a 59-56 win over New Brunswick.

Alberta 76 - Nova Scotia 61

In the last game of the day, Alberta faced off against Nova Scotia.  In a game where there were four lead changes and score was tied on five separate occasions, it was a tight affair.  Alberta controlled most of the contest with great rebounding and interior defence.  Alberta's Tea Demong had 21 points & 12 rebounds to lead all scorers followed by Kaylee Plouffe with 13 points.  Nova Scotia made a comeback early in the 4th quarter but was not enough to close out the game as Alberta prevailed 76-61.

15U Boys National Championship - Day 2

Quebec 83 - Nova Scotia 81

In the first game of the day, Quebec took on the defending champions from Nova Scotia.  The much bigger Quebec team took full advantage early on attacking Nova Scotia's interior defence, scoring 36 of their 49 first half points inside the paint.  Quebec, led by Olivier-Maxence Prosper (18 points, 13 rebounds) and Bennedict Mathurin (17 points, 13 rebounds) was having their way taking the ball strong to the basket, while the smaller Nova Scotia guards had a tough time containing the dribble penetration.  Nova Scotia's only answer was to outmatch the much bigger Quebec team on the perimeter knocking down seven 3-pointers in the first half to keep the game close.  At the end of first half, the score was 49-33 for Quebec.  Nova Scotia opened the third quarter firing on all cylinders, led by point guard Kyree Thompson (32 points, 12 rebounds).  Nova Scotia turned up the tempo, utilizing quick transition and pick & roll sets during early offence to knock down key 3-pointers to close the gap and bring the game to within three with less than five minutes remaining.  The two teams traded baskets in the final minutes with Nova Scotia taking a one point lead with under 30 seconds remaining for their first lead since the opening minutes of the game.  Quebec's Enoch Kalambay (19 points, 11 rebounds) came up strong with some late game heroics scoring 10 points in the 4th quarter to help Quebec edge Nova Scotia 83-81.

Ontario 108 - Saskatchewan 64

The next game saw Ontario taking on the hometown favourites, Team Saskatchewan.  The bigger and stronger Ontario team was in control from the start.  Utilizing their strength and length, they jumped out to a quick start, attacking the basket, grabbing offensive rebounds and knocking down open jumpers.  Lead by Nana Boateng (21 points, 12 rebounds), Ontario closed out first half by a score of 59-34.  Saskatchewan made a valiant effort coming out in the second half with a bit more energy and knocking down a few 3-pointers to keep the game within reach.  But the Saskatchewan boys ran out of steam, as Ontario dominated the 4th quarter 26-6 to take the game by a final score of 108-64.

New Brunswick 78 - British Columbia 52

In the third matchup of the day, New Brunswick faced off against British Columbia.  After a gutsy performance in Day 1 edging out Alberta by just one point, New Brunswick continued their hard nosed style of play to pressure B.C., causing them to turn the ball over 27 times throughout the game, while scoring 27 points off of those turnovers.  Led again by the tandem of Luke Stewart (17 points) and Norman Burry (11 points), New Brunswick never trailed in this game as they maintained a comfortable lead to defeat B.C. by a score of 78-52.  British Columbia was lead by Kai Leighton with 14 points and 2 blocks.

Manitoba 56 - Alberta 63

In the final game of the day, Alberta took on Manitoba in a crucial game to determine seeding in Pool B.  Alberta came out strong putting tremendous pressure on Manitoba, while fueling great transition offence to put up 40 points in the first half on 42% shooting.  Led by Nolan Anderson who put up 14 points in the half, Alberta took a 40-23 lead into halftime.  In the second half, Alberta continued to put pressure on hoping to put the game out of reach for Manitoba.  The Manitoba boys lead by Mason Kraus (18 points) and Kyshawn Ramnauth (14 points) kept coming back to score quick transition baskets and knocking down key threes to bring the game closer in the 4th quarter.  In the end, Alberta held on to win the game by a score of 63-56, thanks in large part to their team high scorer Owen Weaver (18 points, 16 rebounds).

All games will be played at the University of Regina Center for Kinesiology Health and Sport (CKHS). This newly renovated facility has 3 FIBA regulation sized basketball courts with a seating capacity of 2,000 people.
