TORONTO, Ont. (June 30, 2023) – Canada Basketball announced Friday a group of 18 athletes attending U23 Men’s National Team training camp in preperation for GLOBL JAM.

GLOBL JAM, the world-class international basketball showcase, returns to Toronto this summer, July 12-16, and will feature women’s and men’s Under-23 teams from around the world taking to the court at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally across Sportsnet platforms.

Training camp will take place from July 1-9 at Humber College in Toronto.

Thomas Kennedy and Addison Patterson represent the two returnees from last year’s Team Canada squad. Kennedy is currently in the midst of a standout season with the Scarborough Shooting Stars of the CEBL, averaging nearly a double-double with 9.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season. Kennedy wrapped up his collegiate career with the Windsor Lancers this season after being named winner of the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player in U SPORTS men’s basketball.

Kennedy is among five U SPORTS players named to Canada’s training camp roster, joining U of T’s Callum Baker, Alberta’s Adam Paige, TMU’s Aaron Rhooms and Carleton’s Aiden Warnholtz, who is amidst his rookie season in the CEBL with the Niagara River Lions. Warnholtz was named U SPORTS Final 8 MVP and First Team All-Canadian after leading the Ravens men’s basketball team to their 17th national championship in program history.

As announced this May, Nathaniel Mitchell, will lead Team Canada’s U23 Men’s National Team as its head coach for the second-straight summer.

The Toronto native, who was recently named an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks for the 2023-24 NBA season, will once again be joined on the bench by assistant coaches Dave DeAveiro, Jamie McNeilly, Scott Morrison and Kalisha Keane.

With a round-robin preliminary round format, Canada will face Team Africa (July 12, 8:00 PM ET), USA, who is represented by the University of Kentucky Wildcats, (July 13, 8:00 PM ET) and Germany (July 15, 8:00 PM ET), before the top two teams face off for gold on July 16th at 8:00 PM ET.

GLOBL JAM tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster, starting at less than $20 per session for two games.

Sportsnet, Canada’s #1 sports media brand, returns as the exclusive broadcaster of GLOBL JAM FIVES, delivering full-court coverage across its national TV and streaming platforms.
