On the heels of one of the most memorable victories in Canadian basketball history, Team Canada will look to maintain its spot atop the standings when it meets Senegal.

After rallying from an 18-point third-quarter deficit in a 71-67 win over Serbia Monday, Canada joins Team USA as the only unbeaten teams through the first two games in Group B. The top four of the six teams in Group B will advance to the quarter-final round at the conclusion of the round-robin group stage.

A victory over Senegal would give Canada its first ever three-game win streak in the Olympic women's basketball tournament. At 2-0, Canada is off to its best start in the Olympic women's basketball tournament and has won back-to-back games for the first time since the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

Against Serbia, Canada trailed 52-34 midway through the third quarter and headed into the final period down 57-42. After opening the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run, Canada went in front 63-61 with 2:46 remaining on a Kim Gaucher three-pointer from the corner. Trailing 67-65 with 48 seconds remaining, Canada went ahead on a three-point play from Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe then got a game-clinching three-pointer from Miah-Marie Langlois with just eight seconds left.

Canada opened its schedule defeating China 90-68 on Aug. 6.

Senegal has started the Olympics dropping consecutive games to the United States and China by a combined 102 points. The defending FIBA African champions are making just their second appearance at the Summer Games and first since 2000.

Facts and figures:

  • Kim Gaucher is Canada's only remaining player that was part of its last game against Senegal, at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, while Senegal currently has four holdovers (Astou Traore, Aya Traore, Fatou Dieng, and Diodio Diouf) from its 2006 team.
  • Through two games, Gaucher ranks second in Group B in both rebounds (16) and assists (10).
  • Canada leads Group B in three-pointers made (17) and accuracy (.500). Eight different Canadian players have made at least one three-pointer, led by Tamara Tatham and Kia Nurse with four each.
  • Nurse's 25 points against Serbia were the second most by a Canadian at the Olympic women's basketball tournament, trailing only Sylvia Sweeney's 26 against Japan on July 20, 1976
