4-0 Record for Senior B Women After 73-70 Win Over Chinese Taipei-a

(Toronto, Ont. August 23, 2014) – The Senior B Women’s National Team put together a wire-to-wire effort to beat Chinese Taipei-A, 73-70, in Taipei, Taiwan.

Canada showed off their depth against Taipei-A, with Adut Bulgak (Edmonton, AB) coming off the bench for a game-high 19 points as well as 15 rebounds – six of those on the offensive glass. Dakota Whyte (Ajax, Ont.) scored 14 in 20 minutes of play.

The first quarter saw back-and-forth action, with Taipei-A leading 20-19. Taipei-A had a lead of seven at one point in the quarter, but Canada righted the ship and made it close game.

The teams swapped leads in the second, but Canada would hit the locker room with a two-point lead behind strong defence, holding Taipei-A to 11 points.

The Senior B Women would continue to stall out the Taipei-A offence, only conceding 13 points. Canada’s offence was able to penetrate, getting to the paint for buckets and free throws.

Taipei-A would mount a fourth-quarter comeback after being down by as much as 15 points, but Canada would hold on to win their fourth game of the tournament.

Rebounds were the difference, as Canada took care of the glass handily, 59-22.

Canada sits atop the standings with six points and a 4-0 record. They will play Savage USA, who have three points, on August 24 at 3:00 a.m. EST.
