Andrew Nembhard and Shaina Pellington have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for March 29-April 4.
Nembhard earned the honours as he helped guide Gonzaga to an appearance in the 2021 DI men's basketball championship. The 6’5” guard averaged nine points and six assists, while playing 39.5 minutes per game, in the Bulldogs’ Elite 8 and Final Four semifinals victories. Earlier in the tournament, the Aurora, ON native had a standout performance against Creighton with 17 points, eight assists and four rebounds in their 83-65 victory. Nembhard, who transferred from Florida, was named the West Coast Conference's 6th Man of the Year and to the All-WCC Second Team. He has been a mainstay within Canada's Men's National Team programs since first representing the country back at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Men. Most recently, he was the youngest member of a Canadian team that returned in 2019 to the FIBA Basketball World Cup for the first time since 2010.
Pellington was selected as Toyota Player of the Week after helping lead the Arizona Wildcats to their first DI women's basketball championship appearance in program history. The 5'8" guard from Pickering, ON didn’t disappoint as she exploded for a season-high 15 points (5/12 FG) to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Pellington transferred to Arizona in 2019 from Oklahoma after being named Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2018. Pellington has represented the red and white every year since 2015 when she made her debut, helping Canada capture their first gold medal at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women. Most recently, she was a member of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament team that went 3-0 in Ostend, Belgium in February 2020 to secure Canada’s third consecutive Olympic appearance.
