Cadette Women Fall Short in First Exhibition Game of the Summer

CADETTE WOMEN FALL SHORT IN FIRST EXHIBITION GAME OF THE SUMMER

(Toronto, Ont.) – The Cadette Women’s National Team (U17) opened their summer of competition with a tough loss, 66-43, in exhibition action against a tenacious and talented France squad.

Hailey Brown (Hamilton, Ont.) led the red and white with a solid all-around night. Brown poured in 12 points on 4-9 shooting and added seven rebounds. The Canadian supporting cast struggled to be effective with no other player contributing more than five points. This is in direct contrast to the total team effort that France exhibited. Led by Alexia Chartereau’s 16 points and five rebounds, France appeared to be on cruise control from the opening tip.

It was clear early on that first-game jitters were going to be a factor for Team Canada. By half-time Canada trailed France by ten points. Although putting forth a valiant effort, the Canucks had trouble overcoming the early deficit and ultimately fell short, losing 66-43.

Head coach Carly Clarke, unfazed by the loss, sees this as a great opportunity to learn from their mistakes:

This game gave us the opportunity to get some nerves out. The host, France, was a polished team with more game experience than our squad. But we walk away from this game learning things that will help us be successful in the upcoming world championship.” said head coach Carly Clarke.”

Thoughts that were echoed by Chatham, Ont. native & Canada Guard, Bridget Carleton:

“It was good to play our first game as a team. We had a successful training camp and we have to continue to get used to playing with each other and making adjustments when we face different styles of play. I think this experience is one that will help us as we move towards playing in the world championships.”

Exhibition competition in Nogent-sur-Seine continues tomorrow as Canada will look to bounce back when they take on the United States. Tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m. EST. Stay connected and follow along with the Live Stats ticker at http://live.ffbb.com/
