Toronto, ON - In their second game of the U16 FIBA Americas, the U16 Women's National team earned another victory over Venezuela 76-45.

Taya Hanson lead Canada with 11 points on 3-5 shooting, while going a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line in 19 minutes of action. Laeticia Amihere was a force on the glass pulling down 12 rebounds. Canada won the rebounding battle once again 59 to 26. Aguehil Fajardo was Venezuela's standout with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Co-Head Coach Carly Clarke said "A great win today versus a scrappy Venezuela team in front of a great crowd. We maintained our composure and got a chance to work on some different things."

Canada came out of the gate strong to start the game 16-4 which forced Venezuela to call a timeout, however Canada took the first with the score of 18-8. The second quarter became more competitive as Venezuela came out strong, however Canada won the quarter 20-15, and took a 38-23 lead into the half.

The second half was much like the first; Canada locked in on defense and held Venezuela to 11 points in both the third and fourth quarters. At the end of the third, half of Canadaâ??s points (30) came in the paint. In the fourth, Canada sealed the deal winning the quarter by 5 eventually winning the game 76-45.  Final box score, click here.

Clarke added, "Now we are looking forward to a tough game against Brazil tomorrow."
