TORONTO - Canada Basketball has developed Youth Rules Guidelines to help clubs, schools and leagues across the country create safe, inclusive and age-appropriate basketball experiences, with an emphasis on learning, enjoyment and long-term participation.
Aligned with Canada Basketball’s Long Term Basketball Development Model, the guidelines cover equipment, game formats, playing time, scheduling and defensive tactics for age groups from U7 to U14. They provide recommendations for recreational and competitive environments, encouraging meaningful participation and opportunities to build skills, confidence and teamwork. Organizations facing local implementation challenges are encouraged to work with their provincial or territorial sport organization to develop an action plan.
For the full recommendations and the rationale behind them, read the Canada Basketball Youth Rules Guidelines.
