BANGKOK, Thailand (March 16, 2025) – Canada’s 3x3 Women’s National Team made history Sunday, defeating Spain 15-13 to claim gold at the inaugural FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup.

The victory capped an undefeated run for Canada, who finished first in Pool A with wins over Germany, Madagascar and China, before defeating Australia in the semifinal and edging Spain in a physical championship matchup.

Canada’s path to gold

Canada opened the tournament Friday with a pair of wins, beating Germany 14-10 before routing Madagascar 21-6. The team closed out group play Saturday with an emphatic 21-11 win over world No. 1 China, securing first place in Pool A and a direct berth in the semifinals.

Paige Crozon hit a buzzer-beater as Canada edged Australia 18-16 in the semifinal, capitalizing on a crafty between-the-legs assist from Katherine Plouffe.
The gold medal game saw both Canada and Spain trade baskets in a tightly contested affair. Saicha Grant-Allen and Plouffe set the tone early, controlling the paint and making key defensive stops.

Down the stretch, timely scoring from Grant-Allen and Plouffe helped Canada pull ahead, securing the program’s first-ever FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup title.

Standout performances

Saicha Grant-Allen was a dominant force throughout the tournament, finishing with 32 points and a tournament-best 40.7 player value, earning her MVP honours.

Katherine Plouffe was a key contributor, scoring nine points in Canada’s win over China and coming up big in both the semifinal and final. Paige Crozon found her rhythm from long range, delivering back-to-back deep shots in the win over China that sparked a crucial 9-0 scoring run.

Instant reaction from Kacie Bosch

How does it feel to be part of the very first edition of the FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup?

"It’s an amazing experience to be part of the first-ever FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup. This isn’t just another tournament — it’s a historic moment, and getting to compete in it is an honour. It’s a very cool opportunity because, as athletes, we’re helping to lay the foundation for what this event will become in the future. Knowing that only the best teams from around the world are here makes it even more special.”

What makes this event special compared to other 3x3 tournaments you’ve played in?

"The level of competition sets this tournament apart from any other. Every team here has already won a major cup, so there are no easy games—every matchup is against top-tier talent. The fact that it’s the first edition means there’s extra motivation to make history and be remembered as the first-ever Champions Cup winners."

Looking ahead

With the Champions Cup title secured, Canada now shifts its focus to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup, set for June 23-29 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
