BUCARAMANGA, Colombia (June 17, 2024) - Canada’s U18 Women’s National Team started off the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup 2024 with an 84-55 win over Argentina in group play.

Three players finished in double-digits, and Canada saw major contributions from the team in game one. By halftime, they were up to a 47-22 lead, with Nyadieng Yiech leading the way with 16 points and five rebounds.

Olivia Leung hit two threes back-to-back to close out the half and started the second half strong by knocking down two more back-to-back threes, finishing the game with 12 points on 4-8 from the three-point line.

“We’re all really talented individually, so it was all about working as a team and feeding into our strengths,” said Nyadieng Yiech. “

Jasmine Bascoe earned Toyota Canada Drive of the Game Honours and scored a team-high 19 points. Bascoe also had eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

Patricia Augustin and Divine Tumba each scored nine points, with Tumba adding 10 rebounds and nearly a double-double.

"Today for our first game we did a pretty good job of taking care of the ball once we got settled in," said head coach Marlo Davis. "We did a great job rebounding and dominated on the glass, something that we take pride in with the size and the makeup of our roster."

"I think if we can continue to rebound the way we do and take care of the ball, it'll lead to us being a very good defensive team, but also a good offensive team with great selection."

Canada will play hosts Colombia next (June 18, 9:10 p.m. ET / 6:10 p.m. PT), and fans can catch the action on FIBA's YouTube channel.
