ROSARIO, ARG (July 1, 2018) - Team Canada's U17 Men's National Team defeated Egypt 93-53 on Sunday afternoon during the second day of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2018 in Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina.

Four Canadian players finished the day in double digits, starting with Benjamin Krikke who made an impact early and remained consistent, finishing with 11 points, 3 rebounds and one assist.  Matthew Moncrieffe couldn't be stopped on the boards as he grabbed himself 14 rebounds against Egypt.  Addison Patterson used his length to his advantage when he was guarding players from Egypt, getting in the way of passes that would lead him to 5 total steals, the most out of any Canadian player.

A slow start to the first quarter came to an end when both sides got their scorers warmed up, and Canada, led by Benjamin Krikke with 5 points of his own, jumped out to a 25-16 lead to end the first frame.  Playing like they did against Montenegro the day before, Canada showed they were not afraid to slow down their game, make the extra pass or switch where needed to be as efficient as they could on the floor.  

Canada went on a 13-0 run to start the second quarter, playing patient offence and punishing Egypt for their mistakes, often leading to steals.  Egypt answered Canada's run immediately with a 6-0 run of their own to cut back on the deficit.  At the end of those runs Canada found themselves leading by 8, a lead large enough to hold them for the remaining 3 minutes and send them into the second half up 51-24.

After outscoring Egypt 26-8 in the second quarter, Canada were looking to continue to add to their lead in the second half.  Strict man-to-man defence and post play gave Canada the edge during the third quarter.  Making the most out of every opportunity Egypt gave them, Canada remained on top even in a much more balanced offensive and defensive quarter.  Going into the final 10 minutes of play, Canada led Egypt 72-42.  

Canada stuck to what worked during the fourth quarter, remaining patient and not letting Egypt's scramble defense push them off from any open opportunities.  The scoring differential once again favoured Canada in the quarter, with a difference of 21-11, giving Canada an even larger lead.  At the end of regulation, the efficient offence and strict defence was enough to give Canada a 93-53 victory and push them to 2-0 at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup.
