Canada’s 3x3 Women’s National Team went 1-1 in Day 1 action of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Orléans stop in France on Thursday.

Cassandra Brown, Paige Crozon, Katherine Plouffe and Mackenzie Smith represented Canada at this stop. The Canadians opened the day with a 15-14 comeback victory against Israel before falling 21-15 to home team Clermont-Ferrand in their second game of the day.

Plouffe had six points to lead Canada in their loss against Clermont-Ferrand, as the Canadians couldn’t slow Camille Droguet who finished with six points, five rebounds and nine highlights.

The Canadians scored first to start the game, but wouldn’t lead for long as the teams traded buckets and leads early. A two-pointer from Eve Wembanyama moved Clermont-Ferrand in front by one, 7-6, with 6:06 remaining. After a drive from Noémie Brochant, Clermont-Ferrand led by two. A second two-pointer from Wembanyama allowed Clermont-Ferrand to build a four-point lead that they wouldn’t give up. A free throw from Plouffe brought Canada within three, but Brochant scored inside to keep the lead at four points.

With Canada over the foul limit, Droguet drove to the line while being fouled, getting Clermont-Ferrand to 20 points while also being awarded a pair of free throws. After missing the first, she made the second to give Clermont-Ferrand the 21-15 victory.

In Canada’s first game of the day, Plouffe grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds as Canada used its size and out-rebounded Israel 24-14, including 9-5 on the offensive glass.

The Canadians used a late push to come back from a five-point deficit with 3:55 remaining to get the one-point victory. Israel led throughout, until Canada began their comeback with a 4-0 run that started with a two-pointer from Brown to trim the deficit to three. A bucket from Plouffe followed by a layup from Brown brought Canada within a point, 13-12, with 2:17 remaining. Canada missed a pair of free throws before Dor Saar put Israel back in front by two, 14-12, with 1:44 remaining.

Crozon went to work in the post to make it a one-point game. Canada followed up a miss from deep for Israel with a layup from Brown tied the game at 13 points with one minute remaining. After a missed two-point attempt from Israel, Plouffe scored to give Canada their first lead of the game with 21 seconds remaining. A steal from Plouffe allowed Canada to regain possession and they ran the clock out to take the 15-14 victory.

Up next for Canada will be a meeting with the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Friday at 1:35 pm ET / 10:35 am PT.
