CANADA’S CADET TEAM WINS 89-62 OVER ARGENTINA

TEAM CANADA UNDEFEATED IN FRANCE

(Toronto, Ont.) – Canada defeats Argentina 89-62 in its fourth and final game of the FIBA U17 World Championship preparation tournament in Troyes, France.

The cadet squad captured the tournament and Jerome Deroisier (Montreal, QC) was named All Star and tournament MVP.

“This is a great way for us to close out this phase of our preparation for the World Championships,” said Dave DeAveiro, head coach. “Very proud of how this group continues to play together and grow on a daily basis.”

Marquell Fraser (Hamilton, ON) led Canada with 16 points, followed by Brandon Cyrus (Oakville, ON) with 15 points.

Aliende Guillermo was Argentina’s top scorer with 12 points.

Canada took an early 25-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The Argentinian squad rallied, closing the gap to a one-point 38-37 lead for Canada at the half.

Canada was able to refocus and make the appropriate adjustments at halftime, and came out in the 3rd with a renewed passion, extending their lead to 11 points by the end of the third quarter, 62-51.
 
Canada continued to control the game, outscoring Argentina 27-11 in the forth.

Canada will now travel to Dubai for the First Round of the U17 World Championships, where they will take on France at 10:45 a.m. (ET) on August 8th.
