‍TORONTO, Ont. (November 2, 2022) – Canada Basketball announced Wednesday the Canadian Men’s and Women’s 3x3 National Teams who will represent Canada this weekend at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2022.

The FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup returns to Miami after making its debut there last year and will run November 4-6, 2022, at FTX Arena.  Fans in Canada can catch all the action streaming live this weekend on the FIBA 3x3 YouTube page.

On the women’s side, defending FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series 2022 champions – Michelle Plouffe, Katherine Plouffe, Paige Crozon and Kacie Bosch – will represent Canada once again.  Entering the tournament as the second-seed, Canada is in Pool B along with Guatemala (11:30 a.m. ET) and Qualifying Draw A 1 (2:50 p.m. ET).

Over in the men's category, three-seed Canada is one of 17 teams battling for the title.  Canada has been drawn into Pool C and will face Mexico (12:20 p.m. ET) and Qualifying Draw A 1 (3:40 p.m. ET) in Pool Play on Saturday afternoon.  Coming off a bronze medal at the  Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Bik Gill, Jordan Jensen-Whyte and Alex Johnson will team up for Canada.  The trio will be joined by Dele Ogundokun who will make his Canadian national team debut.

A total of 18 countries and a record 30 national teams will compete this weekend to become 3x3 champions of the Americas.  The top two teams in each pool will qualify to a direct elimination bracket, starting with the quarter-finals.

Canada finished third (women) and fifth (men) at the inaugural event a year ago.

The three-day event will begin on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST (UTC-5). Saturday will host games from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST, and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EST. The full matchup schedule is available on the official FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup website.

The FIBA AmeriCup will be the first event for Canada to begin earning valuable ranking points, which will be collected by the Top 25 players in each country between November 1, 2022 and October 31, 2023 to determine who will qualify directly to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

Canada is currently ranked 6th (Women), 18th (Men) and 10th (Combined) in the FIBA 3x3 Federation Rankings.  Canada’s women’s team (Michelle Plouffe, Katherine Plouffe, Paige Crozon, Kacie Bosch) are currently the top-ranked team in the world.
