TORONTO, ON - Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the coaching staff that will oversee the Men's National Team on their road to Olympic qualification.

The team is adding two new coaches to join Head Coach Jay Triano and three-year Assistant Dave Smart. David Vanterpool, an Assistant Coach with the Portland Trail Blazers, and Jim Boylen, an Assistant Coach with the San Antonio Spurs, will join Team Canada as assistants.

"We're thrilled to have these two talented coaches join our staff. They bring a wealth of NBA and international experience," said Triano.

Vanterpool has a wealth of experience with the international game. A native of Daytona Beach, Florida, he played 12 years of professional basketball, including stops in China, Italy, Russia and the NBA. Vanterpool won a Euroleague championship in 2006 with CSKA Moscow. After retiring, he joined the CSKA Moscow coaching staff until 2010, winning the Russian League every year he coached, along with the Euroleague Championship in 2008.  From 2010-2012 he was a Pro Scout/Pro Personnel Director for the OKC Thunder. Vanterpool has been with the Trail Blazers since 2012.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to coach the Canadian Men's National Team. This is a basketball nation on the rise and I can't wait to be a part of it," said Vanterpool.

Jim Boylen enters the Canadian fold with 29 years of coaching experience under his belt. His experience ranges from the NCAA to all across the NBA. Boylen has spent time with the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers and is currently with the San Antonio Spurs. Boylen was the Assistant Coach of three NBA championship teams: the Rockets in 1994 and 1995, as well as the Spurs in 2014.

"I'm thankful to have the opportunity to help Canada Basketball reach their goals," Boylen said.

The pair will aid the Canadian Men's National Neam as they prepare for a busy summer. Canada will participate in two key competitions: the Pan Am Games and the FIBA Americas Championship.

The Pan Am Games men's basketball competition runs from July 21-25 at the Mattamy Centre, in Toronto. A final roster for the Pan Am Games will be announced in July.

Canada will seek qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympics at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City. The tournament runs from August 31 to September 12.
