Canadian Women Are Belgium Bound for FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament

MIES, Switzerland (November 27, 2019) – Canada will travel to Ostende, Belgium for the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament from February 6 to 9, 2020 as the team looks to advance to a third consecutive Olympic Games.

The official draws for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2020 for both women and men took place this afternoon in a ceremony at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, FIBA headquarters.

The top 16 teams in the world will be competing in the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2020 to determine the remaining 10 spots for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Along with hosts Belgium, Canada will face Japan and Sweden.

Japan (hosts) and USA (FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 champions) while playing in the qualification tournaments, regardless of their results, have advanced through to Tokyo 2020.

Canadian fans will be able to watch each game live on DAZN.

Following a second-place finish at the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2019 in September, Canada advanced to the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament with a 3-0 record and a first place finish in their group at the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Americas Tournament earlier this month in Edmonton.

In addition to Belgium, the National Federations China (Foshan), France (Bourges) and Serbia (Belgrade) have been awarded the hosting rights of the four FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

Canada is currently ranked a program-high 4th worldwide in the FIBA World Ranking Presented by NIKE and have participated in the past two Olympic Games (London 2012, Rio 2016).
