McGill 86-84 Cape Breton

Adrian Hynes-Guery had 20 points, six rebounds and four assists and Vincent Dufort finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the McGill Redmen outlasted Cape Breton 86-84 in overtime in the first consolation match.

AUS MVP James Dorsey logged 39 points in the loss including five three-pointers and took more than half of Cape Breton's total shots in his final CIS game. Sean McCormick added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the Capers' last game.

The game was close throughout with the lead changing hands seven times. With 17 seconds remaining in the game Simon Bibeau put McGill up by two points on a jumper out of a timeout, but Dorsey was fouled with 0.2 seconds left. He sunk both free throws to force overtime.

Dorsey opened the extra frame with five consecutive points, but couldn't do it all for his team and McGill pulled out a win.

McGill moves on to the consolation Final Sunday at 11:00 AM. Cape Breton and their Orange Army heads back east to prepare for next season.

Victoria 71-65 UBC

Chris McLaughlin had 20 points and six rebounds, Terrell Evans finished with 16 points and six rebounds and rookie Brin Taylor added 16 points off the bench for Victoria who topped their provincial rival UBC 71-65.

UBC was led by Brylle Kamen's 19 points and seven rebounds, and Isaiah Solomon's 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists as they finish their 2012-13 season.

McLaughlin put in a dunk and another easy two in the final two minutes to put Victoria up 63-61, and Taylor scored four straight to propel the Vikes to the consolation final.

Victoria and McGill will play for the consolation championship Sunday at 11:00 AM.

Lakehead 66-62 Ottawa

In the first Semifinal matchup, #7-ranked Lakehead upset yet another high-ranked team. After topping #2 Cape Breton yesterday, Lakehead grinded out a 66-62 win over #3 Ottawa led by the 24 points of guard Joseph Jones.

Jones came off the bench to score his game-high 24 with six rebounds, took advantage of his trips to the charity stripe going 9-11 at the line, and drilled consecutive three-pointers to swing the momentum in the fourth quarter. CIS defensive player of the year had nine points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, and Dwayne Harvey added 12 points.

Ottawa led going into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 22-13 in the final frame. Senior forward Warren Ward scored 21 points with 10 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, and rookie forward Caleb Agada had another strong outing with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Lakehead moves on to the CIS Final Sunday at 3:30, while Ottawa will play for the national bronze medal at 1:15.

Carleton 84-69 Acadia

Phil Scrubb notched 26 points and his brother Thomas added 20 as the Scrubb brothers combined for nine three-pointers in leading Carleton to the national final game with an 84-69 win over Acadia.

Carleton edged Acadia in the paint 28 points to 12 despite the presence of 6-10 first team All-CIS forward Owen Klassen who registered 17 points and six rebounds. The Axemen were led by Sean Stoqua's 20 points.

For the Ravens, both Tyson Hinz (15 points and 11 rebounds) and Clinton Springer-Williams (11 points and 10 rebounds) finished with a double-double as Carleton out-rebounded Acadia 50-34 for the game.

The national final between Carleton and Lakehead is set for Sunday at 3:30, while Acadia matches up with Ottawa in the bronze match at 1:15.
