‍TORONTO (December 12, 2023) - Canada Basketball announced Tuesday the addition of David Hopkinson to the organization’s Board of Directors.

Currently the President and Chief Operating Officer of Madison Square Gardens Sports Corporation (MSG Sports), a position held since September 2022, Hopkinson joined the organization two years prior as Executive Vice President, Team Business Operations.  He is also Alternate Governor for the New York Knicks and New York Rangers, as well as a portfolio of teams that includes two development league teams – the Westchester Knicks (NBAGL) and Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL), as well as Knicks Gaming, an NBA 2K League franchise.

Hopkinson spent over 20 years in various roles with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), including Chief Commercial Officer.  Before joining MSG Sports in 2020, he was Global Head of Partnerships for Real Madrid Club de Futbol for two years.

Originally from Toronto, Hopkinson returns to the Canada Basketball Board of Directors after being a member from 2013-2018.  He also sits on the Board of Madison Square Garden’s Garden of Dreams Foundation.

In 2013, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service to Canada. 

Following a candidate interview process, the Governance and Nominations committee proposed Hopkinson’s nomination as a Class B Director for a one-year term, which was unanimously approved in a vote by the Board of Directors.

With the addition of Hopkinson, the Canada Basketball Board of Directors currently consists of a full 11 members, including:
