Canada's Women's Development Team recovered well from a tough loss to Japan, defeating Slovakia 71-28 in the third game of the Prague Open.

"Defensive intensity was the key to the entire game,” Said head coach Fabian McKenzie. “We were able to frustrate them and disrupt their offence and scored a lot off of turnovers and advantage opportunities. They key to breaking the game open was a burst from Shay Colley at both ends of the floor."
Carleton led the charge with 23 points and five rebounds, while Colley had 11 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and a plus 37. Canada shot a scorching 42% from three-point range and 78% from the free throw line.
"Coming in we had a game plan and really wanted to focus on defense because that's what Canada is known for,” said Colley. “We took advantage of our opportunities and look forward to playing the Czech Republic again tomorrow.”
The Canadians came out of the gate on fire, building a huge 21-3 advantage, with strong defense and rebounding. Carleton led the charge with eight points and two rebounds, while shooting the ball at a 57% clip. Potter was two for three from the field as Slovakia was held to 8% shooting.
The second quarter saw Slovakia stop the bleeding a bit, as Canada increased the lead to 13 at the half. Colley contributed with great minutes, supplying four rebounds and a plus 15. Canada out rebounded the Slovaks 34-14 and held them to 19% shooting from the floor.
Canada came out of the locker room inspired, as Carleton filled up the basket with 11 points in the quarter. Colley continued her intense play, finishing the quarter with a total of 11 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and a plus 37. Through three quarters Canada led in points in the paint, 28-4, while holding a decisive edge from the 3-point range (41% to Slovakia`s 19%).
As the starters rested, Quinn Dornstauder, Maurane Corbin, and Deneesha Provo increased the lead, with Provo providing nine points, four rebounds, and one steal. Canada finished the game on a 17-9 run.
Canada`s next game is Friday June 24th against the Czech Republic.
