Development Women's National Team Topples the Usa All-stars in Exhibition Action

Toronto, ON - The Development Women's National Team rallied off their third consecutive victory amidst their China exhibition tour today, defeating the USA All-Star team, 61-48.

The Canadians held the American squad to an ice cold 18-87 (20.6%) field goal percentage, while connecting on 20-61 (32.8%) of their own attempts. Although the Canadians were out-rebounded by the USA, ultimately their steady offensive effort was a difference maker.

6'4'' Centre, Adut Atem (Edmonton, AB) led Canada with 15 points (5-10 FG), 10 Rebounds, 2 Steals & 1 block in 19:41 of floor time. Jamie Weisner (Clarkson, WA) chipped in with 14 points (4-9 FG) and 5 rebounds in 25:51 of action. 6'6'' Centre, Ruth Hablin (Houston, BC), rounded out the Canadian double-digit scorers, adding 10 points (5-10 FG), 6 rebounds & 1 block on what was her 21st birthday!

Head Coach Fabian McKenzie (Glace Bay, NS) remarked after the game:

''Sometimes 'ugly' wins, and that was us tonight. We were out rebounded badly and turned the ball over too much. Yet, we managed to grind out a win. This game tested our team and we dealt with the adversity well.''

Jamie Weisner added:

''This was a good challenge tonight because they played a lot of zone defensive. We struggled in the first half. But ultimately we kept fighting and in the end we found a way to win''.

Canada's next exhibition challenge comes tomorrow, June 25 2015, as they continue to tune-up in preparation for the FISU Games in Korea come July.
