The Development Men’s National Team (DMNT) has completed a sweep of the second set of games at the Four Nations’ International Invitational Tournament after today’s 102-61 victory over Latvia. At 6-0, Canada has now registered two wins versus each of the United States, host-nation China and today’s opponent, Latvia.

Team Canada’s full-court pressure defense nullified the Latvian attack from the opening tip-off. The Canadian guards did an excellent job while the rest of the team provided ample support to hold-off their opponents. While Team Latvia struggled, Canada once again spread their offense and mounted a strong and balanced attack and led the game after each quarter.

Toronto, Ont. native Dwight Powell scored a team-high 18 points while adding nine rebounds. Phil Scrubb, Kevin Pangos, Brady Heslip and Kyle Wiltjer all notched 11 points in the match. Scrubb, who was a perfect three-for-three from long range, believes the team’s defense was key in triggering the offence. "As the game went on, our press was very effective. We forced tough shots and played confident on offense. We're excited for our last 3 games here."

When asked about the game, head coach Jay Triano said, "I’m really proud of our guys playing 2 games in 22 hours with that level of intensity. We wore people down! Now, we have a tough day of travel and we have to be ready to play these 3 teams again.”

The four student-athlete teams will meet once again in Wuqi, China for the third and final leg of the tournament. Team Canada next matches up with the United States on Sunday.
