SHERBROOKE, Que. (August 4, 2022) -- In 17U Women’s action, Manitoba outlasted Newfoundland and Labrador 50-42 in a battle of patience as both teams struggled from the floor. Manitoba shot just 26 percent in the game while Newfoundland and Labrador shot 19 percent.
Jazmin Birch led Manitoba with 10 points and nine rebounds while Faith Wellon had 12 points and 11 rebounds and Carly Norris pulled down 17 rebounds for Newfoundland and Labrador in the loss.
Ontario defeated Saskatchewan 91-25 in a blowout quarterfinals victory where four players reached double figures. Deniya Prawl led all scorers with 15 points while Chantelle Stuart had 13 points and seven steals. Ontario held a 19-4 edge in steals and also helped to force Saskatchewan into 39 turnovers while turning the ball over just 13 times.
Quebec hung on for a 75-66 victory over Nova Scotia thanks to a 24-point, 14-rebound performance from Patricia Augustin who shot 11-for-20 from the floor and added four assists and three steals.
Quebec slowly and steadily added to their lead with each passing quarter to remain in control. Emily MacNeil had 19 points to lead Nova Scotia in the loss.
In 15U Women’s action, New Brunswick defeated Saskatchewan 57-50. After trailing by five at the end of the opening quarter, New Brunswick outscored Saskatchewan 25-5 to lead 36-21 at the half. They continued to stay in control through the third and went into the fourth leading by 13.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Ella Simmons to open the fourth extended New Brunswick’s lead to 51-32 with 9:24 remaining. From there, Saskatchewan closed the game on a furious 18-4 run to get within five points with 23 seconds remaining, before Julia Williams sealed the victory at the line with a pair of free throws.
A 19-point performance from Neve Pearson led New Brunswick in the win while Jordyn Neumann had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for Saskatchewan
It was a rough Thursday for Manitoba as they suffered a 109-39 defeat to Ontario behind a 23-point, 10-rebound performance from Cearah Parchment, 16 points from Maya Foz and 12 points apiece from Carletta Bennett, Mildred Dibua and Savannah Swords.
Ontario shot 50 percent in the win and dominated the glass, outrebounding Manitoba 60-23, including 29-6 on the offensive glass. They opened the game by scoring the first 10 points and had stretched their lead to 28 points after the opening quarter.
British Columbia defeated Prince Edward Island 60-24, while Quebec took down Newfoundland and Labrador 90-24 behind a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double from Marie Grace Talle Makoudoum.
