Nov 14, 2021

After the Canadian women’s 3x3 team earned a day off on Saturday following a 2-0 performance in Day 1 of the inaugural FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2021 in Bayfront Park, Miami, FL, they were back at the venue anyway, this time to cheer on the Canadian men’s 3x3 team.

It was another successful day for Canada at the tournament, as the two-seed Canadian men’s team joined the women in going 2-0 to advance to Sunday’s quarter finals.

What went down on Day 2 in Miami:

Yes, Sir: The Canadians earned a dominant 21-4 victory over 12th-seeded Saint Lucia to kick off Saturday’s schedule. The win came courtesy of a red-hot shooting performance from Canadian 3x3 legend Steve Sir, who was perfect from the floor, making all seven (!) of his two-point shot attempts. Sir finished with 14 of Canada’s 21 points in the game, as he simply couldn’t miss to start the afternoon. Sir enters Sunday with 20 total points, second only to Puerto Rico’s TJ Fernandez (23 points).

Another strong debut: After Kacie Bosch made her 3x3 debut on Friday with the women’s team, Adika Peter-McNeilly made his national team debut on Saturday and like Bosch, it was a strong first game. McNeilly finished with seven points and seven rebounds in Canada’s 21-7 victory against Argentina.

Taking care of business: The Canadian men followed up a 21-4 win against Saint Lucia with a 22-7 victory against seventh-seeded Argentina. This time the whole team got involved offensively as Peter-McNeilly and Bikramjit Gill each scored seven points and Sir added six points in the win. Though this was the first time the foursome had played together for Canada, the team showed great chemistry, balance and teamwork t in their first day of action in Miami.
