After a jam-packed day of 3x3 action in Bayfront Park, Miami, FL, the Canadian women’s 3x3 team are a perfect 2-0 and headed to the quarterfinals. The Canadian men’s 3x3 team spent Friday preparing, as well as taking in the Canadian women’s games to show their support as they wait to get things underway in the men’s series on Saturday.

What went down on Day 1 in Miami:

A dominant start for the Canadian women: The top-seeded Canadian women’s team got off to a solid start in the inaugural FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2021 tournament in Miami. After picking up a solid 19-7 victory against the ninth-seeded Puerto Rico team, the women really turned up the heat in a dominant 22-3 victory against eighth-ranked Uruguay in the evening game. Canada’s stellar defensive effort allowed just two made shots from Uruguay, while the offense was clicking on the other end as Canada connected on a barrage of two-point makes to run away with the game.

A strong debut for Bosch: Friday’s action also saw the official 3x3 debut for Canada’s Kacie Bosch. When asked what she was most excited for, coming into her first tournament, Bosch said she was most excited to play with Catherine Traer, Paige Crozon and Michelle Plouffe, saying the three were 3x3 legends. It was a solid debut for Bosch, who provided a boost on both ends of the floor. She will be glad to know that her effort impressed veteran teammate Plouffe. “I’m excited to have a new teammate, Kacie, she did great,” Plouffe said after the team’s victory against Puerto Rico. “I’m excited to be here in Miami, playing with a new group for the first time, trying to figure it out."

Things to know heading into Day 2, where the Canadian men will hit the court:

When to watch: The two-seeded Canadian men’s team will kick off Saturday’s action, facing 12th-seeded St. Lucia at 12:50 PM ET. The team will play two games on Saturday, matching up with seventh-seeded Argentina in their second game of the day at 4:50 PM ET.

A farewell tournament: This will be the final tournament for Team Canada 3x3 legend Steve Sir. The 39-year-old came to 3x3 after a nine-year career of playing professional basketball overseas, and he credits the sport with extending his own basketball playing career. Having Steve Nash as his sports hero, getting to play for his country with 3x3 was quite the added bonus for Sir. “To compete for Canada, that was my first dream growing up,” Sir said. “I wanted to be a Division One basketball player and I wanted to play for Canada. I didn't know what else I wanted to do as far as playing pro or anything like that, but because Steve Nash was my hero, that was always very evident in his story, so to be able to play [for Canada] in America [in Miami, at this tournament] is something that really means something to me.”
