Fourteen athletes named to Senior Men’s National Team training camp ahead of February FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying Window

TORONTO (Feb. 18, 2025) – Canada Basketball announced Monday the 14 athletes invited to training camp for Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team ahead of the third window of the FIBA Men’s AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers.

Canada will face the Dominican Republic in Santo Domingo on Friday, Feb. 21 (7:10 p.m. ET / 4:10 p.m. PT) before taking on Mexico in San Luis Potosí City on Monday, Feb. 24 (5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET). Fans can watch both games live on Sportsnet.

Trae Bell-Haynes and Phil Scrubb, members of Canada’s bronze medal-winning squad at the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup, lead the roster alongside three-year NBA veteran Mfiondu Kabengele. New additions to the AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers training camp roster include reigning CEBL Canadian Player of the Year Koby McEwen, along with Jaden Bediako, Jaden Campbell, Isiaha Mike and Prince Oduro.

Eight athletes return from the most recent Qualifier window in November in Saskatoon, where Canada defeated both the Dominican Republic and Mexico to improve to 4-0. The final 12-player roster will be announced prior to each game.

Nathaniel Mitchell, recently announced as head coach for this Qualifier window, will lead the team. Assistant Coaches Jon Goodwillie, Phil Jevtovic, and Michael Meeks return to the bench after coaching Canada through the first two Qualifier windows in St. Catharines and Saskatoon.

With a perfect 4-0 record including two key wins in Saskatoon, Canada enters the final Qualifier window as the only undefeated team in Group C. Nicaragua has already qualified as host for the FIBA Men’s AmeriCup 2025, leaving the top two remaining teams in the group to secure qualification.

The FIBA Men’s AmeriCup 2025 runs from Aug. 23-31 in Managua, Nicaragua. Canada finished fourth at the 2022 tournament and will aim to capture its first AmeriCup title since 2015.

Canada is currently ranked fifth in the latest FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike., following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
