Canada meets Spain in a pivotal game to wrap up the group phase of women's basketball at the Rio Olympics.

Plenty is at stake for the two teams, which have identical 3-1 records, as the winner of Sunday's game will finish second in Group B and go on to the quarterfinal round to play Turkey. The loser places third and will draw France in the quarter finals. The quarter final round will be contested on Tuesday.

Canada is coming off its first loss of the Games, 81-51 on Friday to the five-time defending Olympic champion Americans. Team Canada started the tournament with three straight wins over China, Serbia, and Senegal by an average of 12 points.

Spain's lone loss thus far also came at the hands of the USA, 103-63. In its most recent outing, on Friday, Team Spain defeated Senegal 97-43.

Facts and figures:

  • Team Canada veterans Shona Thorburn and Kim Gaucher have previously played in Spain's top women's professional league -  Thorburn  from 2007 to 2012 and Gaucher during  the 2010-11 season.
  • Canada's Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe has 12 offensive rebounds, 2nd most in Group B, behind only Spainâ??s Astou Ndour.
  • With a win against Spain, Canada would finish its Group B schedule 4-1, tying 1976 for its best record in the group stage at the Olympic Games.
  • This is the first meeting at the Olympics between Canada and Spain. They have played each other twice in the FIBA World Championships, with Canada notching a 70-65 victory in 1994 and Spain winning 85-57 in 2006.
  • Canada was 2-1 when coming off a defeat at its two most recent Olympic appearances, 2000 in Sydney and London 2012.
