Gino Sovran, 1924 - 2016
On Sunday, June 26th, 2016 Gino Sovran, passed away at the age of 91 years. Gino will be forever remembered by the Canadian basketball community.
Gino Sovran along with Hank Biastti were the first Canadian athletes to play basketball professionally in 1946. He played for the Toronto Huskies in the Basketball Association of America or what we call the NBA today, in the first year of its existence. He was inducted into the University of Windsor Alumni Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. Gino was the last living member of the 1946 NBA season and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him."
