Greg Francis, from Toronto, Ontario, is the Manager of Men’s High Performance at Canada Basketball. Former head coach at the University of Waterloo.
After four years in his current role of Senior Men’s National Team Assistant Coach, Greg Francis was hired as the Men’s High Performance in April 2015. During his playing and coaching tenure with Team Canada, Francis played in the 2000 Olympics while becoming the Head Coach of the National Elite Development Academy from 2007 to 2009 and Junior Men’s National Team from 2005-2011.
As the Men’s High Performance Manager, Francis will provide technical leadership to the Men’s High Performance Department’s Performance Pathway (Gold Medal Profile project), National Team (NT) and Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) programs. He will be providing leadership and mentorship primarily to the Development and Age-Group Men’s National Team Coaches, Target Athlete Strategy coaches and personal coaches of identified Target Athlete Strategy athletes.
Francis began his playing career as a Fairfield University guard in 1994 – leading Fairfield to a MAAC Championship while earning MAAC Tournament MVP. After playing four years professionally in Britain from 1997-2000, Francis was enshrined into the Fairfield University Hall of Fame in 2003.
In 2000, Francis became the Assistant Coach at Monmouth University – helping to lead the school to an NCAA Tournament appearance. After spending some time coaching with the National Team, Francis stepped back into the collegiate coaching world by becoming the Head Coach at the University of Alberta in 2009. Once he led Alberta to a second-place finish in the CIS in 2012, Francis moved on to coach at the University of Waterloo from 2013-2015.
Francis currently holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Fairfield University and attends the University of Alberta for Sport Management.
