Kia Nurse and Mikkel Tyne have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week of August 30-September 5th.
Tyne made a statement during his Team Canada debut at the FIBA U16 Americas leading Canada to a bronze medal finish. The 5’10” point guard from Brampton, ON averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the tournament where he was also named to the All-Star Five. Tyne currently attends Huntington Prep Basketball School.
In Phoenix’s last three wins, Nurse averaged 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists per game, shooting 100% from the line, 67% from three, and 66% from the field. The Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) are on a 9-game winning streak and have clinched a playoff berth (currently sitting in 5th). The 6’0” guard from Hamilton, ON attended University of Connecticut (NCAA) and went on to play professionally in the WNBA and Australian with the UC Capitals in the offseason. Nurse has represented Canada for over 10 years, most recently at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics last month.
