Oshawa Power Add Canadians Papa Oppong And Kevin Shand

(OSHAWA, ON) Durham’s Team the Oshawa Power have added guard Papa Oppong and Centre Kevin Shand to the roster. The Power have released guards Dwain Williams and Jerome Brown.

The 6’4” 185lb Oppong, a Pickering, Ontario native, participated in the inaugural NBL Canada Combine in August 2011 and was subsequently drafted by the Halifax Rainmen 13th overall in the second round. He appeared in 8 games for the Rainmen this season.

Oppong is an Eastern Kentucky alum who averaged 10.2 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game for the Colonials in two seasons from 2008-2010. In his junior year
he was honoured with an Ohio Valley Newcomer of the Week selection.
Prior to Eastern Kentucky, Oppong attended Panola Junior College. Oppong was one of the top players of the Ontario(OFSAA) AAAA Provincial Champion Mother Theresa Catholic High School team.

The Power have also signed 6’10” big man and Toronto native Kevin Shand to the roster.

Shand, is a seasoned veteran who played collegiately at Humber College in Toronto and then attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA for his junior and senior seasons. He has played professionally in Belize, Hungary, France and Mexico. Shand also played for Canada in the 2001 Goodwill games in Australia.

The Power organization is very pleased to bring Oppong and Shand on board.

of Basketball Operations. “They are local talent that will add toughness, experience, intelligence and a commitment to defense.”

The Power now have 5 Canadian players on their roster, the most in the NBL Canada.
