PARIS, France (August 3, 2024) - Canada's 3x3 Women's National Team look to close out the group stage with a win, with eager eyes looking ahead to the play-in round later today.

What: Canada Women’s 3x3 Team vs Azerbaijan

When: 11:30 a.m. ET

Where: Place de la Concorde, Paris, France

Canada's Women’s 3x3 Team looking to regroup

Canada had a tough Friday slate, dropping back-to-back games in overtime to the USA and Spain to fall to 3-3 in Paris after going into the day with a 3-1 record. After Rhyne Howard and Sandra Ygueravide made two-pointers in overtime to lead their respective teams to victory, Canada shifted their focus to preparing for Saturday’s slate. “I think a big part of it is rest,” Paige Crozon said after the team has played six games in five days. “Going and having a good meal, taking care of our bodies, and then our strategy, the whole Olympics has been our defensive pressure, defensive intensity thing. We've been really strong every single game in that, so I think it's just being really clear and concise in our game plan.”

Saturday’s 3x3 schedule

In addition to Canada’s first game against Azerbaijan, there will be play-in games played later that day. The format for the 3x3 Tournament will see the top two teams in pool play advance to the semifinals, while the next four teams participate in play-in games on Saturday. Canada is currently in fifth place (out of eight teams) after Friday’s games. “Definitely not what we prepared for, or definitely not what we hope for, but I know that our team is really resilient,” Crozon said after the team’s loss to Spain on Friday. “We have strong spirits. We've been in positions where we had to battle before, so tomorrow is a huge game for us, and I think it's all about rest and recovery and our preparation against Azerbaijan.”

Senior Men’s National Team finish group phase undefeated

After defeating Spain 88-85 on Friday, the Senior Men’s National Team wrapped up Group Phase play by finishing a perfect 3-0 despite being in a stacked Group A with No. 2 ranked Spain, No. 5 ranked Australia and No.14 ranked Greece. Andrew Nembhard had his best game playing with the Senior Men’s National Team in a FIBA event, scoring 18 points on 8-for-10 field goals, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added a game-high 20 points in 28 minutes. Gilgeous-Alexander is one of five players to have multiple 20-point games at Paris 2024, alongside teammate RJ Barrett who has led the team in scoring during the group phase with a team-best 21 points per game on 59 percent shooting. “We're a good team, so every game's going to help us find ourselves more and [come] together,” Nembhard said. “I think, in fact, [having] these tough opponents, it's really going to help us to knockoff round."
