The Senior Women's National Team is coming off a great start to the summer having won the Gold Medal at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. The next step for them is to qualify for the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio de Janeiro by winning the FIBA Americas Tournament taking place in Edmonton. Leading up to the Americas Tournament we spoke to our SWNT members and they gave us their thoughts on a few things and here's what they had to say...

Honestly it doesn't bother me.  We had a great showing (in London) and we've continued to get better (as a Program) so our ranking can only continue to rise and can only get better. There are some teams we've beaten that are ranked higher, for example we beat Brazil in the 2012 Olympics. However prior to the Olympics, we hadn't had as much success in comparision to now.  We're all working for something better (than a higher ranking) and I think we're proving that, year after year, tournament after tournament. So I do have faith that we will climb the rankings.

But in the end ranking don't really matter. It would be nice to have a higher ranking but it's not something I'm constantly thinking about when I go to the gym. I don't work so that we can be (ranked) number one; I'm working hard so we can win. The motivation for our team isn't to win games to prove that we are talented and we are a team to be reckoned with.

I think we will continue to get better, we only have room to grow. I don't know exactly how much better but we'll see. We've done great things so far but we're not finished, we have a lot more to do. We have some goals left for this year and once this year's goals are completed, there'll be goals for next year to get better. As a person you always strive for the best and as a team we do the same, no matter what.  You can always better.
