Quinn Dornstauder is Enjoying Her Canada Basketball Journey

Hard to believe it's already been four years since she debuted as a member of the 2012 Cadet Women's National Team, and now she’s a veteran on the Development Women’s National Team, which won silver at last year’s FISU Games in Korea.

"Every year has been fun, every year has been different, and it's been so much to fun to progress year by year," said the six-foot-four centre from Regina.

"Last year was a lot of fun, I think that might be my favourite memory because we went to FISU and it’s so well organized that it felt like a mini Olympics," continued the 20-year-old. "Not that I’ve ever been to one, but if I could imagine what the Olympics are like, I would think it would be something like that. That was a lot of fun."

In May, Dornstauder took part in the Senior Women's National Team Phase One training camp in Edmonton. She did the same in 2015, gaining experience that informed her approach this past season as a junior at Arizona State University, where she was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team after averaging 9.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

"One thing I learned from last year is that at the senior level it’s a totally different ball game,” said Dornstauder, who led the Sun Devils and ranked seventh in the Pac 12 with 1.3 blocks per game. "It’s super aggressive and physical, so I knew coming in here that I’d have to be a lot tougher and play a lot stronger. So I definitely kept that in the back of my mind all season and have been working on physical strength."

Coming into this summer, Dornstauder had logged 38 career games for Canada Basketball; 10 with the CWNT 13 for the Junior Women’s National Team, and 15 on the DWNT. From June 20 to 25, the DWNT will compete at an exhibition tournament in Prague.

Where will Dornstauder’s path take her next?

She's happy going anywhere as long as she’s wearing the maple leaf.

"It feels like things are really on the up and up right now and it’s really exciting that I can be a part of it, whatever way that I can," she said.
