RJ Barrett and Sarah Te-Biasu have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for March 8-14.
RJ Barrett had an impressive showing with the New York Knicks, posting a career-high 32 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 13th. In his three games over the past week, the Mississauga, ON native averaged 27 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. So far this season, he’s put up an average of 17.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Barrett was drafted third overall by the Knicks at the 2019 NBA Draft after spending one season with Duke University. As a high-school recruit, the 6-foot-6 forward was named the Naismith Prep Player of the Year, Gatorade Player of the Year and hit the court in the McDonald’s All-Star Game. He helped guide Canada to a gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup, where he was named the tournament’s MVP and to the All-Star Five. He also won a silver medal at 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Men.
Sarah Te-Biasu also hit a career-high of 19 points to help lead VCU to their first ever A-10 conference championship. She also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in their 81-69 victory over UMass. Te-Biasu, a freshman for the Rams, was also added to the All-Tournament roster for her performance over the four-game tournament. The 20-year-old previously attended Niagara Prep, where she was named a OSBA First Team All-Star during her 2018-2019 season. She previously represented Canada at the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup 2019, where she averaged 8 points and 4 assists and was a member of the U19 Canadian National Team.
