ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (February 23, 2024) – Canada Basketball announced Friday Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team roster ahead of the first window of the FIBA Men’s AmeriCup Qualifiers 2025.
Canada will face Nicaragua on Friday, February 23, at the Meridian Centre at 7:10 p.m. ET in St. Catharines before travelling south to Nicaragua for a rematch on Monday, February 26 (8:10 p.m. ET). Fans can catch all the action streaming live on Sportsnet+.
Limited tickets for Friday’s game are on sale via Ticketmaster and start as low as $30 (plus applicable fees) or at the Meridian Centre box office. Online and phone orders are subject to applicable fees.
Before the game, Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team hosted a training camp at Ridley College in St. Catharines this past week.
The 16 teams in the FIBA Men’s AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers have been distributed into four groups of four teams each, with Canada being drawn into Group C along with the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Nicaragua.
Each team will play each opponent in their group twice under a "home and away" format during three windows, which will take place February 19-27, 2024, November 18-26, 2024, and February 17-25, 2025.
The top three teams in each group (12 in total) will qualify for the FIBA Men’s AmeriCup 2025. However, as host, Nicaragua will automatically qualify for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025, and the remaining best two teams from Group C (Canada, Dominican Republic, and Mexico) will take the remaining two spots for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025.
The 20th edition of the FIBA AmeriCup will be held at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua from August 23 – 31, 2025.
Canada is ranked sixth in the latest FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike, after the rankings were updated following the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023.
