Senior Women Fall to Korea, 56-53

CANADA’S SENIOR WOMEN’S TEAM LOSES 56 – 53 TO KOREA.

(Toronto, Ont. August 27) – Canada’s Senior Women’s National Basketball team suffered a tough 56 – 53 loss to Korea in their second game of the Czech International Tournament in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) Czech Republic as they continued their preparation for the FIBA World Championship for Women.

“Korea is a tough team to play against. They have a distinct style that is quite different from any team we've seen thus far,” said Lisa Thomaidis, Head Coach. “As much as our defense was solid in the first half, it let us down in the second. We need to regroup and prepare for a veteran Czech team tomorrow.”

Tamara Tatham (Brampton, Ont.) was Canada’s top scorer with 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Kim Gaucher (Mission, BC) and Nirra Fields (London, Ont.) both added 9 points each.  Miranda Ayim (London, Ont.) tied Tatham with 7 rebounds.

Canada with a strong first half and led 25-11.  Tamara Tatham (Brampton, Ontario) was Canada’s leading scorer with 8 points after 2 quarters.

Canada took a 45 to 37 lead into the 4th quarter.  Canada held the lead for over 39 minutes of the game before Korea took the lead in the last minute.

Junga Ja Sin was Korea’s top scorer with 15 points.
