Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nirra Fields have been named Canada Basketball Toyota Canada Players of the Week for July 11 – July 17.
Gilgeous-Alexander put together a fantastic week, leading his NBA side Oklahoma City Thunder to three-straight victories averaging 32 points, eight assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block per game, while shooting 50% from the field, as well as from behind the arc. This past summer, Gilgeous-Alexander represented Canada on the Senior Men’s National Team on three occasions in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifying tournament, helping Canada stay undefeated with victories in all three games.
Fields is coming off a strong week competing in the Turkish league, where she led her team Emlak with 32 points – shooting 55% from field goal range – in a narrow loss to Fenerbahce 87-83. Fields is coming off a summer where she represented Canada at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia, helping the team finish fourth overall at the tournament. Fields averaged 10.3 points and 3.6 rebounds on 25 minutes per game.
