Canadian student men’s team took to the court at FISU games this weekend beating Brazil 88-77 in quarter-final action. The win increases Team Canada’s perfect record to 6-0. The team looks to continue its streak Monday in a semi-final match.
Brazil started the game off well coming out hard in the first quarter leading the game 20-17 at the end of the first. In second quarter action, the game remained close with Canada taking the lead by one at the end of the half. Both teams played great defense and the score at half was 38-37.
Canada came out in the third quarter playing great defense. The team held Brazil to only 15 points and increased their lead by seven to a score of 59-52 at the end of the third. In the fourth quarter, Canada ran away with the game. Both teams played a great offensive game and Canada came away with the 88-77 win to move on to semi-final action.
Guard Brady Heslip led the team in scoring for the fourth time in four games. Another stellar performance by the Burlington, Ont. Native leading the team with 20 points while adding three rebounds in the quarter-final match. Forward Dwight Powell also had a great game adding 15 points and six boards. Kyle Wiltjer came clutch in the fourth dishing out three treys and scoring 11 points in the quarter. Full statistics from the match can be found here.
