Team Saskatoon to Represent Canada in Fiba 3x3 All Stars

Team Saskatoon is one of 6 teams selected to participate in 2014 FIBA 3X3 All Stars taking place December 12, in Doha, Qatar.

“We’re very excited that Team Saskatoon has been selected for the FIBA 3X3 All Stars,” said Michele O’Keefe, Executive Director. “This team has embraced the 3x3 environment and demonstrated how competitive Canada can be.”

This is the first All Star trip for the Canadian quartet who posted a 2nd place finish at the 2014 FIBA World Tour Masters Final in October.  This is also the first time a Canadian team has participated in the event, which is in its fourth year.  

“Canadians are continuing to make their mark on the game of basketball and it feels great for us to be able to represent our city and country on the world stage,” said Michael Linklater, captain of the squad. “We are prepared to have a strong showing and this event will provide us with the experience of a lifetime.”

Linklater (Saskatoon) along with O’Neil Gordon (Brandon), Michael Lieffers (Saskatoon), and Willie Murdaugh (Saskatoon) comprise the All Star Canadian squad.

Following a successful run through Canada Basketball’s 3x3 Canada Quest tournament in Edmonton, Saskatoon competed in and won the 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Chicago Masters qualifying them for the 2014 World Tour Masters Final, which took place in October in Tokyo, Japan .

The FIBA 3x3 All Stars brings together the number one ranked players and their squads from the 3x3 individual world rankings in: Europe, the Americas (North, Central and South America included), the host country (Qatar), the rest of the world together, the top U18 team in the world and the FIBA 3x3 World Tour champions.
