Three Canadian Teams Tip-off In FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters Competition
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (September 9) - Three Canadian teams will participate in the 2015 FIBA 3X3 World Tour Master Competition, which tips-off today in Mexico City, Mexico.
"Congratulations to the three Canadian teams competing in the World Masters Tour," said Michele O'Keefe, President & CEO, Canada Basketball. "We're pleased to work with FIBA to develop 3x3, as we believe it's an important factor in increasing participation in basketball across Canada."
Team Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Ottawa each won their regional 3X3 Canada Quest tournaments hosted by their respective Provincial Territorial Organizations (PTSOs), to qualify for the FIBA 3X3 World Tour Masters Competition.
Lead by Michael Linklater, Team Saskatoon enters the tournament as the #1 ranked team; Team Winnipeg and Team Ottawa ranked 4th and 8th respectively. The top two teams of the tournament will qualify for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on 15-16 October 2015.

Canada Basketball and the PTSOs continue working with FIBA to increase the number of basketball players and fans by structuring and developing 3x3 basketball events nationally. Following the successful introduction in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, the ultimate goal is that 3x3 becomes a self-sustained new FIBA discipline and enters the Olympic Games by 2020.
